Choose the currency and tax setup
Starts in pounds with UK VAT at 20%, but both currency and tax can be changed. It does not convert exchange rates — it uses the currency and tax structure you select.
Add the job sections
Break the work into the stages or areas you would use on a real quote: main scope, first fix, second fix, testing, external works or extras.
Add labour and job costs
Why organise a quote into sections?
A single total can hide where the price came from. Sections separate different stages, rooms, systems or work packages — and make scope changes easier to explain.
Build labour from time, not memory
A labour allowance should reflect more than the visible fitting task.
The calculator can start from fit time, multiply it by quantity, then apply site uplift and additional labour where the job creates extra time.
Example: ten items at 30 minutes each create 5 hours of fit time. A 20% site uplift increases that to 6 hours. An extra hour for setup, testing and close-out gives 7 total labour hours. The internal cost and customer value are then calculated from the hourly rates entered.
Include the true material cost
The supplier price is only the starting point. Where needed, include consumables, waste, delivery and ordering time before the material selling price is calculated.

Markup and margin produce different prices
Markup is based on cost. Margin is based on the selling price. With a true job cost of £10,000:
The calculator shows both figures so there is no hidden conversion between the two methods.
20% markup
Selling price £12,000 and a gross margin of 16.7%. Markup adds a set percentage to the cost.
20% target margin
Selling price £12,500 — equivalent to a 25% markup. Margin sets gross profit as a percentage of the final selling price.
Keep internal costing separate from the customer quote
The internal summary is for the business — true costs, profit and margin. The customer quote shows scope, section values, tax and the final total, without revealing internal costs or markup.
