Search ‘certificate of completion template’ and you get award-certificate makers — the kind that congratulate a student or employee. Not one is a contractor’s ‘the job is complete and accepted’ sign-off.
This is that missing document: a completion and handover certificate for a real trade job.
Complete, accepted, and signed by both sides
It states clearly that the work described was completed and accepted, on a date, with space for handover notes and any guarantee — then both the contractor and the customer sign.
That signed acceptance is what supports releasing the final payment and heads off ‘it was never finished’ later.
This is not a regulated certificate
This is a completion and handover sign-off between you and your customer. It is not a Building Regulations completion certificate, a JCT certificate of practical completion, an Electrical Installation Certificate (EICR), a Gas Safe / CP12 record, a FENSA certificate, or an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
Where your work legally requires one of those, it must be issued through the proper certification scheme — this document does not replace it.
If the job was electrical minor works — an addition or alteration to an existing circuit — the customer also needs the BS 7671 certificate for that work. Acceptance, final payment and snagging
When the customer signs, they’re confirming the work described is complete and accepted — which is usually the trigger for the final payment and the end of the main job.
Note any outstanding items or snags on the certificate so acceptance is on the record but nothing agreed is forgotten. Signing doesn’t remove your obligations to put right defects that appear later.

This creates a completion and handover record — it doesn’t issue any regulated certificate and isn’t legal advice. How it affects payment, retention or your contract depends on the agreement between you and the customer.
