Emergency Lighting Certificate Template
Emergency lighting certificate template on FieldHive's own form, built on the content the BS 5266-1 model certificates record: the periodic inspection and testing certificate — the emergency lighting test certificate — for the annual visit, or the completion certificate for a new installation with its design, installation and verification declarations. The 23 items assessed, the classification row explained, an optional luminaire schedule, the next test date filled in, a signature on screen or on paper. Free, no sign-up. You certify the installation; we supply the template.

Search 'emergency lighting certificate' and the first page is two PDFs uploaded by a village hall and a letting agent, a ten-section template that has none of the standard's content, a testing article that cites American codes, and three 'from £89' booking pages. Nobody offers the completion certificate at all, and nobody lets you type the installation and the results in and print the certificate.
This form does. It is not a copy of the BSI model certificates or of a scheme's pad — it is FieldHive's own layout on the content those certificates record — and it prints as a branded A4 PDF.

Which certificate, and the installation
Periodic inspection and testing (the annual visit) or completion (a new installation). BS 5266-1:2025 by default, 2016 for older certificates. Then contractor, client and installation, the extent covered, the purpose and arrangement, and the classification — type, mode, facilities and rated duration — with the codes explained beside the boxes.
The results, or the declarations
For the periodic certificate: the 23 items the standard assesses, each satisfactory, a deviation or not applicable, plus the function test, the full rated-duration test, the light meter and an optional luminaire schedule. For the completion certificate: the design, installation and verification declarations, item by item.
Sign and set the next test
The competent person's signature on screen, an optional signature for the responsible person, and the next inspection date filled in from the interval — twelve months for the annual full-duration test.
BS 5266-1:2025, in force since 31 October 2025
BS 5266-1:2025 is a full revision of the 2016 code, which is withdrawn. Its scope now covers emergency local area lighting and standby lighting as well as emergency escape lighting, and it points to the current European standards, BS EN 1838:2024 and BS EN 50172:2024. The test regime it records on the certificate is unchanged in shape: a monthly function test, an annual test for the full rated duration, and — new — photometric verification every five years. Every certificate on page one still cites 2016; this form defaults to 2025 and offers 2016 for certificates issued before the changeover, printing the 2016 clause references only in that mode.
Rated duration is one hour where the premises are evacuated at once and not reoccupied until the batteries have recharged, and three hours where people sleep, in entertainment premises, or where evacuation is phased. The classification row on the certificate is the luminaire code from BS EN 60598-2-22 — type X self-contained or Z centrally supplied, mode 0 non-maintained or 1 maintained, facilities A to G, and the duration in minutes.
Everything the sections record
Emergency lighting test certificate template — monthly, annually, and every five years
Monthly
A short function test — the supply is interrupted and every luminaire and exit sign is checked to operate — recorded in the log book by the responsible person.
Annually
The full rated-duration test: the supply is interrupted for the rated duration (one or three hours) and every luminaire checked to still be lit at the end, then the charging indicators checked. The periodic inspection and testing certificate — the emergency lighting test certificate — records it; it is the default on this template.
Five-yearly
BS 5266-1:2025 adds photometric verification with calibrated equipment, to confirm the illuminance the design promised.
The EICR
The wiring of an emergency lighting system is inspected under BS 7671 and an Electrical Installation Condition Report issued; the certificate has a box for its number and date.
Sits with the fire alarm certificate, the job sheet and the invoice
Emergency lighting is usually tested on the same visit as the fire alarm, and both certificates go in the log book. The job sheet records the visit, the invoice bills it, and where the wiring was altered the minor works certificate covers the electrical work. FieldHive has a free form for each.
You certify. We supply the form.
This tool lays the certificate out and prints it. It does not test anything, it does not design the installation, and it does not make anyone competent to sign. The person named on the certificate is certifying that the installation complies with BS 5266-1; the duty to provide and maintain emergency lighting sits with the responsible person under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. None of this is fire-safety advice.
The FieldHive app does not issue emergency lighting certificates. This is a free standalone form with no scheme, ICEL or NICEIC logo. The PDF is free with no sign-up; the editable Word version and the logo upload unlock with an email.
