A real tool

A remittance advice you generate — not a Word file you wrestle

Search for a remittance advice and you get raw Word and Excel files, or software you pay for. There's no clean, free tool to just make one.

This is that tool: add the invoices your payment covers, the date and the method, and it builds a tidy remittance advice you can send straight away.

A free browser generator — not a static download or paid software.
Who and why

Who sends a remittance advice, and why

A remittance advice goes from the payer to the payee — from you to your supplier or subcontractor — to confirm you've paid and, crucially, which invoices the payment covers.

When you settle several invoices in one payment, it saves the payee guessing. They can tick off exactly what's been paid and chase only what hasn't.

It's a courtesy and a reconciliation aid — not a legal requirement, but suppliers value it.
What to include

What a remittance advice should show

Enough for the payee to reconcile the payment to their invoices.

Your details (the payer)The payee's detailsPayment date & methodEach invoice number, date and amountThe total paidA payment reference
The line-per-invoice list is the point — it's what lets the payee match your payment to their ledger.
Not a receipt

Remittance advice, receipt or invoice?

Three documents people mix up.

Remittance advice (payer → payee)

“I've paid you, and here's what it covers.” Sent by whoever makes the payment, listing the invoices settled.

Invoice / receipt (payee → payer)

An invoice requests payment; a receipt confirms one was received. Both come from the party being paid — the opposite direction to a remittance advice.

For CIS

Handy when you pay subcontractors

If you pay subcontractors under CIS, a remittance advice alongside the payment tells them which invoices you've settled — and pairs with the payment and deduction statement that shows the CIS you withheld.

Together they give the subcontractor a clear picture of the payment behind the deduction.
