The problem

Page one gives you a blank form to print — none of them fills in or checks anything

Search 'electrical installation certificate template' and you get the IET's model forms, an older NET form, two council PDFs, a PDF-filler page, a Scribd upload and one template page. Every one of them is a blank to print and fill by hand after the job, and none of them works out the maximum Zs for a circuit or tells you when a reading is out.

This template is filled in on screen and prints as the finished certificate. The first page is the EIC itself — client, installation, the extent of the new work, the declarations and the next inspection. The supply, earthing and particulars follow, then the schedule of inspections and a landscape schedule of circuit details and test results for each board, with the maximum Zs filled in from BS 7671 and any reading that is out flagged before you download.

One certificate, all its schedules, the maximum Zs checked. Free.
How it works

Five steps, the certificate available at every one

1

Client and installation

Pick a quick start — consumer unit replacement, new circuit, EV charge point circuit, full rewire or new build — and it fills the type of work, the description and the extent. Change anything after.

2

Supply and earthing

Earthing arrangement, Ze, Ipf, the supply fuse, the means of earthing, the earthing and bonding conductors and the main switch — the same particulars as the condition report.

3

Boards and circuits

One landscape schedule per board. Quick-fill a typical circuit; the maximum Zs fills in for the device type and rating, and readings that are out of range are flagged.

4

Schedule of inspections

Set every item to inspected and complies in one tap, then mark what doesn't apply as N/A. New work has no condition codes.

5

Declaration

One signature for design, construction, inspection and testing — or three, when different people were responsible. Sign on screen or leave the boxes to sign on paper.

The rules, briefly

An EIC is for new work — and Amendment 4 is mandatory from 15 October 2026

BS 7671 requires an Electrical Installation Certificate for a new installation and for an addition or alteration to an existing one — in practice a rewire, a new circuit or a consumer unit replacement. An addition or alteration that does not include a new circuit can go on a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate instead; the condition of an existing installation goes on an Electrical Installation Condition Report. The certificate is only valid with its schedules attached.

Amendment 4 to BS 7671:2018 was published on 15 April 2026 and is mandatory for new work from 15 October 2026; the template defaults to A4:2026 and lets you choose an earlier amendment where that is the one the work was designed to. In homes, some work is notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations — a new circuit, a consumer unit replacement, and work in a room with a bath or shower — and the building control compliance certificate is separate from the EIC.

Which certificate the job needs

Electrical Installation Certificate

New installations, rewires, new circuits and consumer unit changes. Signed for design, construction and inspection and testing — once or three times.

Minor Works Certificate

An addition or alteration that does not add a new circuit — an extra socket, a replaced accessory, a moved light. One page.

Condition Report (EICR)

The condition of an existing installation — landlord checks, house sales, periodic inspection. It reports, it does not certify new work.

Schedule of test results

The test results on their own, one sheet per board — for your records, or to go behind any of the three.

All four are free here, on the same forms and the same circuit schedule.
Part of the job

Sits with the other certificates, the O&M pack and the invoice

A consumer unit change or a new circuit usually comes with an isolation record on the day, a minor works certificate for anything small done on the same visit, and a handover pack for the client. The certificate number and dates carry through, and your firm, scheme number, signatures and instruments are remembered on this device for the next one.

Honest limits

You design, install, test and certify. We supply the form.

This tool lays out the certificate and its schedules and prints them. It does not test anything, it does not decide whether the work complies, and it does not notify building control. The person or people named in the declaration are responsible for the work and for the certificate.

It is FieldHive's own layout on the content BS 7671 requires an electrical installation certificate to record — not a reproduction of the IET model form, and it carries no IET logo. Where you are registered with a scheme, use the scheme's own certificate if its rules require it.

Free PDF, no sign-up. Word on email. The app does not issue certificates.

The certificate is one sheet in the job

The EIC goes to the client with the invoice and, for notifiable work, the building control certificate. FieldHive keeps the enquiry, quote, job, invoice and payment connected for that customer — the certificate is the one thing it leaves to you.
